Cults and False Religions, Part 2

Do you know the basic doctrinal beliefs of the Christian Faith?

1 John 4:1-6
1 Beloved, believe not every spirit, but try the spirits whether they are of God: because many false prophets are gone out into the world.
2 Hereby know ye the Spirit of God: Every spirit that confesseth that Jesus Christ is come in the flesh is of God:
3 And every spirit that confesseth not of Jesus Christ is come in the flesh is not of God: and this is that spirit of antichrist, whereof ye have heard that it should come; and even now already is it in the world.
4 Ye are of God, little children, and have overcome them: because greater is he that is in you than he that is in the world.
5 They are of the world: therefore speak they of the world, and the world heareth them.
6 We are of God: he that knoweth God heareth us; he that is not of God heareth not us. Hereby know we the spirit of truth, and the spirit of error.

God
~ The one God is Triune (God in three persons, Father, Son, and Holy Spirit)
~ He is personal and involved with people
~ He is a personality with intellect, emotion, and will
~ His character is eternal, changeless, holy, all-powerful, all-knowing, everywhere present, loving, perfect
~He created the universe out of nothing

Exodus 3:14~And God said unto Moses, I AM THAT I AM: and he said, thus shalt thou say unto the children of Israel, I AM hath sent me unto you.
I Timothy 3:5~For if a man know not how to rule his own house, how shall he take care of the church of God?
Isaiah 43:10~Ye are my witnesses, saith the LORD, and my servant whom I have chosen: that ye may know and believe me, and understand that I am he: before me there was no God formed, neither shall there be after me.
Psalms 90:2~Before the mountains were brought forth, or ever thou hadst formed the earth and the world, even from everlasting to everlasting, thou art God.

Jesus Christ
~Is the second person of the Trinity, God the Son
~He has always existed and was never created
~He was conceived through the Holy Spirit and born of a virgin
~He died on the Cross as the full sacrifice and payment for our sins
~Physically rose from the dead, was seen by many witnesses for 40 days and physically ascended into heaven.
~He will come to earth again in bodily form, establish God's kingdom, and judge the world.
~He is the only way to salvation

John 14:6~Jesus saith unto him, "I am the way, the truth, and the life: no man cometh unto the Father but by me."
Colossians 1:15-19~15 Who is the image of the invisible God, the first-born of every creature:
16 For by him were all things created, that are in heaven, and that are in earth, visible, and invisible, whether they be thrones, or dominions, or principalities, or powers: all things were created by him, and for him:
17 An he is before all tings, and by him all things consist.
18 An he is the head of the body, the church: who is the beginning, the first-born from the dead; that in all things he might have the pre-eminence.
19 For it pleased the Father that in him should all fullness dwell;

Philippians 2:5-11~5 Let this mind be in you which was also in Christ Jesus
6 Who, being in the form of God, thought it not robbery to be equal with God:
7 But made himself of no reputation and took upon him the form of a servant, and was made in the likeness of men:
8 And being found in fashion as a man, he humbled himself, and became obedient unto death, even the death of the cross.
9 Wherefore God also hath highly exalted him, and given him a name which is above every name:
10 That at the name of Jesus every knee should bow, of things in heaven, and things in earth, and things under the earth;
11 And that every tongue should confess that Jesus Christ is Lord, to the glory of God the Father.
John 1:14~And the Word was made flesh and dwelt among us, and we beheld his glory, the glory as of the only begotten of the Father, full of grace and truth.

Holy Spirit
~Is the third person of the Trinity
~He is a person, not a force or energy field
~He comforts, guides, teaches, convicts, reproves, and fills us as believers
~He gives spiritual gifts to believers to use
~He empowers Christians to serve the Lord
John 16: 7-13~7 Nevertheless I tell you the truth; It is expedient for you that I go away: for if I go not away, the Comforter will not com unto you; but if I depart, I will send him unto you.
8 And when he is come, he will reprove the world of sin, and of righteousness , and of judgement
9 Of sin, because they believe not on me;
10 Of righteousness, because I go to my Father, and ye see me no more;
11 Of judgment, because the prince of this world is judged.
12 I have yet many things to say unto you, but ye cannot bear them now.
13 Howbeit when he, the Spirit of truth, is come, he will guide you into all truth: for he shall not speak of himself: but whatsoever he shall hear, that shall he speak: and he will show you things to come.
Psalm 139:7~Whither shall I go from thy spirit? Or whither I shall flee from thy presence?
John 14:26~But the Comforter, which is the Holy Ghost, whom the Father will send in my name, he shall teach you all things, and bring all things to your remembrance, whatsoever I have said unto you.

Man
~Man was created in God's own image, originally without sin.
~Man is highest created order and is to have dominion over the earth.
~Mankind fell by disobeying God (sinning) in the Garden of Eden
~Man is born in sin, depraved, and destined for hell unless spiritually reborn.
~Man cannot reconcile to a righteous God without a Saviour.
Jeremiah 17:9~The heart is deceitful above all things, and desperately wicked: who can know it?
Romans 5:12~Wherefore, as by one man sin entered into the world, and death by sin; and so death passed upon all men, for that all have sinned
Romans 3:10~As it is written, THERE IS NONE RIGHTEOUS, NO, NOT ONE
Romans 3:23~For all have sinned, and come short of the glory of God.

Salvation
~Salvation is by God's grace, not by what a person does (works)
~Salvation must be received by faith
~Atonement with God has been made by the sacrificial death of Jesus on the cross for the sins of mankind.
~We have assurance of forgiveness and eternal life only in Jesus Christ
~Jesus is the only way to salvation
1 Peter 2:24~Who his own self bare our sins in his own body on the tree, that we, being dead to sins, should unto righteousness: By whose stripes ye were healed

9 Not of works, lest any man should boast.

~Jesus resurrection guarantees that believers will also be resurrected one day and receive new immortal bodes.
Hebrews 9:27-28~27 And as it is appointed unto men once to die, but after this the judgement:
28 So Christ was once offered to bear the sins of many; and unto them that look for him shall he appear the second time without sin unto salvation.
John 14:13~And whatsoever ye shall ask in my name, that will I do, that the Father may be glorified in the Son.
Revelation 21:8~But the fearful, and unbelieving, and the abominable, and murderers, and whoremongers, and sorcerers (druggies), and idolaters, and all liars, shall have their part in the lake which burneth with fire and brimstone: which is the second death.
Romans 6:23~For the wages of sin is death; but the gift of God is eternal life through Jesus Christ our Lord.

  1. Hi Esther! Thanks for the comment! I have decided to go gluten free 7 weeks ago because I have always had intestinal and stomach issues. It has helped that a little as well as congestion in my throat. :) For two weeks I have also been sugar free...not necessarily for any reason. :)

  2. Great post! It's helpful to go back and go over the fundamentals of our faith... even if we already know what they are!
    Blessings,
